Farm/Barn History:

The barn was built in 1842.  Ralph's mother and father, Iven and Thelma Shotwell purchased the farm in 1923.  Its original function was as a dairy barn; currently it is used to store hay and equipment.

The barn is constructed with wood and pegged beams and has a stone foundation.  The barn is surrounded by a hand-cut limestone wall that was quarried from the farm and built in 1882.  The stones weigh up to 3,000 pounds or more.  The architecture design of the barn was definately determined by its function.

The Barn Quilt was a Christmas present to the Shotwells from their family.
